Quality Literacy Programming - Feb 13

I really enjoyed getting to know the Quality Literacy Programming: A Reflective Tool document.  There are so many aspects within the tool, and all of them are key to increasing effectiveness and excellence in literacy. We will have to sit down to see where we are with regard to the indicators, and how we can make it a working document for our own school.  I believe that our school culture will be positively impacted by continuing to overtly attend to the key aspects of literacy programming as guided by this document.
Thank you Mary for leading us into the future of education!

  1. Remember that the indicators are sample indicators. The bullet at the bottom of each section is for your school to add an indicator if you choose to do so. Choose or write your own indicators that reflect the needs of your school.

    1. Yes, I do understand. Some indicators don't seem to apply to us and we do have indicators that are specific to our school. As we start the process I will access the digital document so we can personalize it for our own school.

  2. I am currently waiting for a 'word' version of the QLPT document. Once I have it I will send it out to everyone in an email.

  3. As I returned to my school this afternoon, I thought about how I would like to see it used at my school. One thing you said, Mary, was how this is a tool to use to help conquest the new curriculum. I think that there isn't wide spread understanding of the new curricula that is coming, and even beginning with one element of the QLPT is one step in the right direction in preparing staff for what is coming...so thank you for that. Literacy is such a complex topic, and small steps are what is going to be required.

    1. Tammy,
Good thinking! In our LDF sessions we are talking about quality literacy programming which is needed in every aspect of the curriculum. Think big and start small.

  4. Tammy, I fully agree that their isn't widespread understanding of the curricular redesign. I was hoping to see a session or two at Convention that would provide teachers with some ideas. Even though I am not in a school this year, I have more information than any of the staff at my school - this is very disappointing for me. For myself, sharing the QLPT document will provide a good start I think. What are your thoughts on the current lack of communication with school staff regarding curricular redesign?
