Good morning,

Your discussion and sharing with each other yesterday was wonderful.  I noticed how conversations automatically went to your personal situations, bridging theory into practice.  Was there something presented or discussed where you had an "a-ha!" moment?

  1. I appreciated getting copies of the K-12 Literacy Guiding Document and the Ministerial Order. These two documents will help me start the conversation about literacy programming at our school. The "Coles Notes" version of the QLPT is another document I can utilize for conversation as well. It was interesting for me to walk around and see how everyone catergorized what they though good literacy practices were. Although we all had generally the same ideas, our categories were all different. My biggest a-ha moment is the quote "In order to lead others, you need to be clear about what you believe". This is something I need to identify.

    1. Yes our approach and language differed. This reinforces how important flexibility, choice and cooperation is when interacting with others!

  2. I don't know if I had an "aha" moment but I sure enjoyed discussing and look forward to future discussions about what quality literacy programs look like and I also appreciated the documents we looked at. This is my first time blogging!

  3. I had not made the connection between the QLPT and the Second Languages document. As a former FSL teacher I made use of the second languages document regularly to reflect on and inform my practice. The question I will present to my school colleagues this week is "How can we use the QLPT to reflect on our common literacy practice?"

    1. I would be interested in this connection as well. Or it's connection with ELL.

    2. I attended a session where we looked at the Draft Literacy Benchmarks, and I wondered what the ELL connection will look like within these benchmarks.

  4. Although I can't recall an 'aha' moment, reflecting on the discussions and documents has me excited to see how the literacy plan will 'roll-out' and how it's success will be a result of collaboration will all stakeholders.
