Thank you for hosting this pd course for us Mary. I have a two-part question early on in this first presentation.
ReplyDeleteThere have been a variety of literacy programs that have been developed over the last few decades, so what are the new concepts being divulged and explored within this program, and what are similar or overlapping concepts that match up with the previous programs?
Maurie
Maurie,
DeleteGreat question! It seems that what goes around, comes around in Education but it just comes around better. As educational approaches are studies and practiced more and more ideas are explored and solidified. The field of education has certainly had its fair share of pendulum swings. Now more than ever there is recognition for a balance of literacy approaches to meet the range of learners that we have in our classrooms.
The Quality Literacy Programming : A Reflective Tool will highlight research based practices that we know to be true for the range of learners within classrooms, especially in Section 2 of the document. Our focus will help you to determine if the various 'programs' that are out there will adhere to what you know about quality literacy instruction ( you will be able to judge if the 'program' will truly assist with the 'programming' for students).
Does this answer your question?
Thank you for the opportunity to reflect on core literacy values, discuss with other colleagues, and begin to think about the QLP tool. I am looking forward to coming back together to look into the document further.
ReplyDeleteLauren,
